Peer Support
Peer Support is
an experiential learning program aimed at educating young people so that they
are more able to resist negative peer pressure, to care for each other and to
follow a healthy lifestyle. It aims to develop communication, self-esteem and
leadership skills through small, caring peer support groups, providing a safe
environment where positive ideas can be
explored and nurtured. Peer support involves a number of Year 10 students
leading small groups of Year 7 at one of two one day outings to be held in Term
1. Year 10 leaders will provide security and friendship to help Year 7 students
to adapt successfully to high school life.
Details will be distributed to students in Week 1
2001.
Year 7 will also be involved in a performance of
Sticks and Stones prior to the camp. This is an important introduction to the
activities planned for the Peer Support Program. The Peer Support organisers
are Miss Brown (Mathematics Faculty) and Mr Waythe (PD/H/PE Faculty).
