Study Techniques
To study
effectively you will need to:
Know
what you are studying
- Know the requirements of the teacher/examiner before beginning to
study.
-
Note
the course outlines and requirements for each of your subjects in your notebook
and refer to them frequently to clarify your aims and goals so that you do not
waste time learning unnecessary or irrelevant material.
These
outlines and links to the Board of Study for Syllabuses and Specimen
Examination papers are on the Colo High Web-site.
Listen
- Prepare for your lessons by doing some
reading in advance.
- Sit where you can hear and
see the teacher clearly. When the lesson begins give your full attention to the
teacher. Listen and try to relate remarks made to what you already know about
the.subject. This makes it easier to remember as one idea follows another.
-
Review,
evaluate and reflect. Think over or write down in your own words the main
points of the lesson. Evaluate and reflect on the material.
What did your teacher actually say?
Was it
logical? How useful is it to you?
Do you agree
or disagree with what he/she said? Why?
Did your
teacher answer your questions?
If not,
discuss your queries with her/him either during or after the lesson.
Did the
teacher indicate possible assessment or exam questions? What were these?
