Overview of the levels system

OVERVIEW OF THE LEVELS SYSTEM

LEVEL 1A

This level rewards students who have excelled within the school community of Colo High School. Placement on this level is achieved through a system of accumulated merit awards.  A Principal’s Award will be presented at a special morning tea to which parents will be invited.

LEVEL 1

All students start on this level.  Most students will remain on this level during their time at Colo because they will co-operate with their teachers and fellow students.

LEVEL 2

The student is causing problems in class or behaves in an inappropriate way in class or the playground or has breached the beliefs of the school.

LEVEL 3

The student has not responded to the support of staff and parents and has breached the beliefs of the school.  The student may undertake a program to assist in the development of more appropriate behaviour.

LEVEL 4

The student has ignored all efforts to assist him/her or has breached the beliefs of the school.  The student will undertake a program to assist in the development of more appropriate behaviour.

LEVEL 5

The student either indicates no desire to fit in with others at Colo, or in what may be a single incident has shown complete disregard for the safety or well-being of students or staff.  The student will be suspended for the welfare of the school as a community.

Some restrictions apply when a student is placed on levels 3 or 4; in particular, the student will not be allowed to participate in special school activities such as excursions, social events or sport outside the school grounds.

The placement of students on levels is reviewed fortnightly; students are therefore able to work their way back to level 1 over a period of time.
