The Curriculum For The School Certificate

The Board of Studies is the authority which determines the requirements for the award of the School Certificate.

To receive the School Certificate, students at Colo High School must successfully complete courses in the following:
  • English
  • Mathematics
  • Science
  • History
  • Geography
  • Personal Development/Health/Physical Education
  • Three other elective subjects selected from those offered by the school.

Already, students who have been enrolled at Colo High School from Year 7 have experienced courses related to those that they must study or may elect to study. In making decisions concerning courses it is recommended that consideration should be given to the interest a student took in subjects studied in Years 7 and 8 and their level of ability in those subjects. Students who are uncertain about different courses should consult with the teachers of those subjects.

Finally, we make the following recommendations:
  • It is not considered appropriate for students to change courses during Years 9 and 10. Selections should be made with a commitment to complete each course or course package of 2 one hundred hour courses over two years.
  • To satisfy the requirements for the award of the School Certificate students must be able to show a satisfactory attendance record and satisfactory application to each of their courses. Therefore it is most important for students to try to select courses in which they are interested.
  • Please also consider that there is a cost for materials for some courses you may choose.
  • Students may select three Technic electives but must be aware that the Board of Studies requirements allow for only two Technic electives to be recorded on the School Certificate. Results for all three Technic subjects will be recorded on the student's Semester 1 and Semester 2 Colo High Reports.
